WE WON!!

Today I have some exciting news for you all...

We won SFER National's Visual Awareness campaign with our display from Education Week!

If you didn't get a chance to see the display when it was up on the LBC Quad check out the picture.  We're so excited to have won the competition and can't wait to keep up our good work!

That being said, don't forget to come to our next meeting...

This Thursday, November 29th at 6:30 pm in Classroom 3 of Hillel.

Amy Holiday, one of our founding members of the Tulane chapter will be here for a discussion over delicious pizza!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Hillel, it is located at 912 Broadway (the intersection of Broadway and Burthe streets), and the classrooms are on the second floor of the building.  If anybody is unsure or wants to walk over together, meet in front of Dixon hall at 6:15pm.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

As promised, here is our recap from last weeks meeting...

Nolan Marshall, our fabulous speaker from the Cowen Institute for Public Education, gave an engaging and informative presentation about the state of public education in New Orleans.  Some of the topics we covered were the voucher program, parent triggers, the "financial backpack" and complications associated with school choice.  Each of these issues are complex and multifaceted; as the year progresses we hope to delve deeper into the new programs that resulted from the last legislative session and how they will actually effect students in New Orleans.

For those of you who missed it, not to worry!  We are working on scheduling Nolan again for a time in the spring semester as we monitor the development of the issues we discussed last week.

Our next meeting will be in one week, Thursday, November 29th at 6:30pm in Classroom 3 of Hillel.

Amy Holiday, one of our founding members of the Tulane chapter will be here for a discussion.  Pizza will be provided!

Also, for those of you who are unfamiliar with Hillel, it is located at 912 Broadway (the intersection of Broadway and Burthe street), and the classrooms are on the second floor of the building.  If anybody is unsure or wants to walk over together, meet in front of Dixon hall at 6:15pm.

Hope y'all have a wonderful turkey day and weekend!

Hey Everyone!

Our next meeting will be this Thursday at 6:30pm in classroom 3 of Hillel. We're going to have a speaker from the Cowen Institute to come educate us about education!  There is so much going on in public education in the country right now, especially in New Orleans so this is going to be a fantastic opportunity to further our knowledge.  It will help us determine a direction for the remainder of the school year and bring us one step closer to a better public education system.

Hope to see you all there!

As always, don't hesitate to contact me at sfertulane@gmail.com

Now this is a story all about how next week got flipped, turned upside down.  I'd like to take a minute so sit right there, and I'll tell you what we're going to do for Ed. reform....

We will also have a awesome visual display up on the LBC Quad, make sure you check it out.
Also, we will be tabling on Monday by the visual display to get down more emails for the listserv and spread awareness.  Let us know if you're interested in helping out!

If you can make time for this event it will be well worth your while! Transportation will be provided, so please RSVP to sfertulane@gmail.com if you plan on coming.
